Maximum Take Offs Or Landings

Mon Jan 22, 2007 1:28 am

I guess this is aimed at short flights but I was wondering if there is a limit on the number of take off/landings that a crew is allowed to perform during a duty day.
Thanks.

Hey there,
the limiting factor usually is the duty time. At LH you are allowed to fly up to 5 sectors a day. Max duty time up to 14hrs. So you have to fly 5 short flights.
Duty time starts about 70mins prior the 1st take off and ends 30 minutes after the last landing. So hurry up to get all the flights into that 14 hours. I have never flown more than 5 sectors a day which is enough Big grin

When I flew the 737 at Gatwick we had a 6-sector duty which everyone hated. It was a hard day's work. If I recall off the top of my head it went something like:

LGW-EDI-LGW-AMS-EDI-AMS-LGW  tired

Give me a SIN-LHR any day over that!

I remember when I was instructing in smaller aircraft that I could over 50-100 in day. These days I am lucky to get 3 a month.

Don't remember seeing anything other than time limits in either part 135 or part 121. Six segments was about my max too - at YR a typical mid-workweek day was:

LAS-GCN-LAS-GCN-LAS-IFP-LAS.

Or just to shake things up a bit:

LAS-IFP-LAS-GCN-LAS-GCN-LAS.

That would give about 7.5 hours flight time on an 11-hour duty day. On the first and last days of the workweek they'd try to schedule a shorter day - late in on the first, and early out on the last. Averaged about 95 hours a month flying six days a week as a probie F/O.
