How To Get A Job As An F/A

Sat Feb 03, 2007 8:42 am

When I return from my trip to england How To Tell My Gf To Get Her Passport Asap! (by KLM672 Jan 23 2007 in Non Aviation) I plan on applying to all/every airline across the country (USA) (-21, I'm 20). I am now single and willing to relocate to wherever and show complete heart and dedication to whomever hires me. I have long dreamed of a job and now I can do it. I was wondering if anyone has any tips that I could do now (I bookmarked a bunch of airlines that are hiring)? I plan on applying after I return (as much as I would love to now), April 3rd. Or even apply while in england. Perhaps a few days before I leave to go home?
Thanks!
Andre

Emirates, Qatar have been recruiting for a long time if you want to relocate,
Also Qantas has been establishing an Auckland base in New Zealand and are hiring for Longhaul intl. Not sure about other airlines.
Main thing for FA is to have a good history of customer service, hospitality, have lots of energy, positivity (smiling etc), and also the ability to take control of a situation (emergency procedures etc).
Best of luck to you.  Smile

well let me tell you something...if you get hired at a regional your going to get screwed, its hell let me tell you. I said I wanted it that bad back in the day when I was 18, so I got a job flying around on CRJ900s allll day long. After a couple years, it certainly makes you look elsewhere. I won't rain on your parade, go get it out of your system. Have fun!

G'day KLM672,

You should check out the cabin crew threads on www.pprune.com. They seem to contain much information on what it is like to be a cabin crew member and advice on how to successfully apply www.pprune.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=40

Stupid question:
I assume you'll have to fly out to the base for the interview (pay your own way)?

You sound like you would be a fantastic flight attendant. And, after being on A.net for 7 1/2 years, you most likely know what customers want. Might I reccommend Delta Air Lines? They are a fantastic company to work for, managment is great, and non-rev opportunities are endless. We are a growing airline and should be hiring.

I worked for Comair for a little bit as a CSA (see: RE: Is Being A CSA That Difficult? My Story (by KLM672 Jan 9 2007 in Tech Ops)6/), so I think that would rule out Delta, wouldn't it? Somewhere on here is my story. I'll search for it.

Ah yes I remember that story. You can always try again. Explain your situation, and I'm sure they will reconsider you. Besides, working for DL and being a F/A is a whole new ballpark compared to working for OH as a CSA. Did you have any chances to non-rev on DL at all?

Mesa by chance? Not saying the regionals are great, but to paint them all with that brush would be unfair.

No, I only Non-rev with OH and ASA but never mainline. Would DL be 21? I will be 21 in June, I plan on starting out applying when I return from my trip to England (or even apply a day or two before I head off, or shall I start even earlier?). I will be there for two weeks. Also, like i asked above, I figure I should put some money aside to travel (fly) to the interview in which-ever base? I have bookmarked so far: Colgan, Republic, United, Usairways, Gojet,Coex, and commutair. Any others that are age requirement 20 and under?

Can you speak any other languages? It would help greatly if you could speak a language that is common in a country Delta is expanding to (From the website: Arabic, Czech, Danish, French, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Korean, Romanian, Spanish, Swedish, and Ukrainian). This would mean you could start off on international flights. Not sure about age requirements, but I am kind of leaning towards 21 for DL international.

Nope, just English. Yeah, I am also leaning towards 21.
Can anyone answer my question: Also, like i asked above, I figure I should put some money aside to travel (fly) to the interview in which-ever base?

If the airline is half reputeable they will at least give you a space available (stby) ticket. If this is the case make sure you get an early flight in, so that if you get bumped a few times you still have backups and can make it to the interview.

ok, like I said, I plan to apply to all airlines even if they don't fly into my local airport (btv). If thats the case, I'd probablay have to pay my way to Bos, Jfk etc and then there.

In the UK, you have to make your own way to the interviews. I don't know how it is in the US, but I should imagine that they'd be quite similar.

Good luck to you on getting an F/A job! I really want to be crew too, and I'm only about 9 months away from the time that I can apply to the majority of the airlines (especially VS).

Which base are you thinking of going for in the US?

In my two interviews (as pilot) for regional airlines, one was space positive and one was space available.

Of course in KLM672s case he would need to get to an airport served by the airline in question (or its painted affiliates).

I know Skywest is hiring tons of FAs, and their first year pay is around 18-19 an hour, which is pretty darn good on the regional side. Not sure how it compares to mainline (other than US's abysmal first year pay), but their growth means you will be off reserve and able to switch to a desirable domecile quicker.

Yep that was my starting point, I even left once, only to return six months later after a failed endeavor with another company. I have since left the bitter skies, and have moved on to the "Better Skies" and hopefully soon will go to the "almost best skies".

You are right in that fact however, Mesa is tied in a package with about two other companies, and they are terrible places to work, but regionals don't get a whole lot better. I have many a friend that work at Horizon Air, and they are the only ones who like their jobs, infact, some of my friends that were at Skywest hated it so much because management was so anal they left and went to fly at Alaska, Or QX. Good luck!

Well everything is certainly relative. I'm more familiar with the pilot side, but while I've heard a lot of complaints from various regionals, the stories I get from Mesa crews always blow me away. There's bad, and then there's Mesa. The only stories I've heard that come close to Mesa are both from airlines that don't have F/As.

When I went to my DL Tech Helper interview in ATL, DL paid for SEA-ATL FC round trip, I had to pay the rest (Hotel and food, etc...) It was a good experence, but I didnt get the job. So no bad blood there at all. I actually had a good time. Oh, this was in 2000 for the SLC position.

Try the Middle Eastern airlines. They're always expanding, and it doesn't seem too difficult to get work visas to work in the UAE as they need the staff. In Europe, you need a work visa to come and work here, which may be more difficult.
