How Much Do All The Avonics Cost On An Aircraft?

Tue Feb 27, 2007 5:06 am

Suppose all the avionics had to be replaced, how much would the replacement cost be? How much does this vary across aircraft types? Maybe a better question would ask how much of aircraft cost is due to the manufacturer acquiring the necessary avionics.

Well, im not sure about commercial, but a glass cockpit in a King Air 350 will set you back $250,000. a Garmin G1000 for a GA aircraft will set you back about $60,000.

I think I have read somewhere that a "decked-out" Boeing 777's avionics can cost as much, if not more than USD$1 Million.

I'm sure the cost is much higher than that

WAYYYY higher!

Prices in USD Millions

777-200 178.0 -- 195.0
777-200ER 190.0 -- 212.5
777-200LR 219.0 -- 243.0
777-300 210.0 -- 234.0
777-300ER 237.0 -- 264.5
777 Freighter 232.5 -- 240.0

off the top of my head, i would assume over $10 million (total). $1 million for the 777 maybe buys you a aileron  biggrin

DISCLAIMER: i hav no idea how much an aileron costs  wink

Well, a used set of the old, crappy Cessna ARC radios probably wouldn't cost much at all  silly

Rumor where I work is that the each of the main flight control computers for the 787 is worth about the same as a decent 2000 sq ft house in the suburbs of the Everett/Seattle area ($350,000).

I think I would cry for days if I dropped one of those bad boys...

When I visited FedEx they said that they were upgrading their DC-10 cockpits to MD-11s. They cost about 9 million per retrofit
It's not a near miss it's a near hit!!

Makes the USD$30,000 glass upgrade of the C172 seem like pocket change  smile

Just an example: A few weeks ago we mislaid a TCAS computer in our stores. The price of it was $ 38.000 (we foundit again after a few days, somebody had put it into a wrong shelf).
An EEC for a CFM 56 costs about $100.000.

My bad, $30,000 per unit, equaling $60,000 total (2x G1000)

Considering that that's what a goot 1970's model Cessna 172 goes for (depending on Avionics, of course  Wink ), you gotta wonder about the wisdom of re-fitting one  Wink The 1982 172P I usually fly (rent) has a probably $30,000 avionics stack in it...Apollo CNX-80 WAAS GPS with the MX-20 moving map and the old Apollo flip flop digital nav/com and digital transponder. Rumor is that this FBO bird came to the FBO by way of some Apollo Avionics employees down in SLE...

And, after all that, it's still not a glass-panel bird. You still have a 6-pack in front of your face Big grin
