Another DC-9 Noise Question

Tue Feb 27, 2007 4:19 pm

A few months ago I was on a NW DC-9-30 from SAT-MEM. Anyway, I was in first class and sometime before pushback there was this noise like an electric drill that sounded like it was coming from the floor... Any idea what it was?
Things were better when it was two guys in a dorm room.

Did you hear it before engine start? And did it go away after the engines were running?
Is it broke...? Yeah I'll fix it.

Yes.. it was around the time the doors on the baggage pits were closing.

Ok so now I am going to ask the really stupid question.. If it is an electric hydraulic pump why do I only hear it for a few seconds. Is it just pressurizing the system or something?
