MD-11 Mtow Infos

Wed Mar 21, 2007 12:57 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for informations regarding the MTOW (Maximum Take Off Weight) of the MD-11s.

When the MD-11 production was launched, only three versions were available with their respective MTOW: Passenger - 273,366kg / 602,500lb; Combi - 276,769kg / 610,000lb ; Freighter - 276,769kg / 610,000lb.

Then, in 1991, MP launched the MD-11CF version (283,575kg / 625,000lb)

When it appeared that the aircraft had range shortfalls, the manufacturer embarked itself on a Performance Improvement Programme which lasted several years and produced at the same time some different MTOW specifications for the trijet.

For instance and AFAIK, Swissair fleet of MD-11 was composed of 16 newly delivered aircraft, perhaps with different MTOW depending of the date of delivery, but all upgraded to MD-11AH with 285,990kg / 630,500 lb MTOW; plus the four ex. LTU which had a lower MTOW.

I've found details for Varig Logistica two MD-11Fs, as well as for those of Transmile and Saudi Arabian. Regarding SV MD-11Fs, the airline's web site shows that they have a MTOW of 286,848kg / 632,500lb. I'm slightly doubtful about these numbers for a take off weight, and perhaps are they correct for a Maximum Taxi Weight...

KLM MD-11s have a MTOW of 280,320kg / 618,000lb while those of MP, now freighters only, have the highest MTOW available. Were the MD-11CF modified before being converted to cargo only aircraft ?

In other words, I'm looking to gather as much informations as possible on the MTOW specifications of all MD-11s or all fleets of MD-11s since the first delivery till now. If any of you have older editions of the JP airline fleets book, they may find on it these details. Any good informations (with references) and/or web-links where to find what I'm looking for are welcomed.

Thanks for your help.

I know this one, but I'm looking for details for each aircraft/operators.

Quoting WSOY (Reply 2):

Indeed. The KL and MP details come from the same site you've shared once in another thread.

Oceansworld,

A couple of corrections:

Then, in 1991, MP launched the MD-11CF version (283,575kg / 625,000lb)

Not true as we received our First MD11 in 1994.
The DC10 that crashed in Faro was replaced by the PH-MCO and we continued flying with the 10 until they were phased out gradually by the MD11 in 1994/95.
The MCO returned to the leasing agency while the other 2 were converted into the very first KDC10 which are still flying at our KLu.

Also not true as we still have 4 CF and 3 full freighters.
My company decided that the CF's will never be converted into pax again so they're planning to remove al convertible equipment in time but for now they are still convertible.
They were converted to the higher MTOW during regular D-checks in Zurich but I don't know when this happened exactly.
I've been licensed on our MD11's for about 4 years now so I'm kinda missing the early history.
But I do know that our aircraft leave AMS with MTOW most of the times.....and land with max landingweight as well  Smile

Regards,

Arjan

You mean those of FX ?

When I said "launched", I meant ordered as first customer for the type. And indeed, the first MD-11CF, PH-MCP, was delivered December 2nd, 1994.

Here's my source. Do a search with PH-MCP, and it shows it as an MD-11F.

PH-MCO came in the fleet January 15th,1993 (less than a month after MBN crashed at FAO - 21/12/1992) after spending many months stuck to the ground at ZRH since Balair withdrew it from its fleet in 1992.
MBP was returned February 2nd, 1995 to its owner since June 1992, your KLu. MBT was also owned by the KLu since June 1992, and was handed-over by MP October 6th, 1994.

Regards.
