A380 Wiring Problem Question

Tue Mar 27, 2007 7:59 pm

I have always wondered a question:

With all the A380s flying passengers on test flights, with most recent being the ones landing in New York and Los Angeles and the one flying to Washington, all the passengers are seated in normal airline seats with normal IFE and TV screens. In other words, its a normal aircraft with normal screens.

I assume there is nothing wrong with the wiring in those A380's since they are going through all these flights with passengers. Why then would wiring be a problem for other A380's being built? These tested ones cannot possible be much more different than the specifications ordered by individual airliners.

So, why is the wiring problems cant be fixed for other planes in time (obviously now itsfixed) , and CAN for the testing version of the A380?

Thanks For your answers

Difference between operational certification and experimental certification. The route proving tests are probably using a version of wiring that is unlikely to pass any operational certification, but will work. These aircraft will be rewired as a matter of course before being delivered to airlines.

Right, I may get this wrong but here's what I think happenned:

The very first A380s barrels were sent to TLS with no wiring which was then fitted as the planes were assembled - these ae the test planes.

The first of the production planes arrived with the wiring pre-installed in the sections and when they looked to mate them up the wiring was all wrong - these planes are being re-wired one by one (the first SQ was finished in Jan and has been sent to Germany to be fitted out with a cabin)

All of the planes currently in various states of assembly will go through the re-wiring process

Secions for planes 26 onwards will arrive with the wiring hopefully correct and won't need any re-wiring!
