### RE: What Is A Green Field Airport?

It is an airport built on undeveloped land usually outside of a city.

A Greenfield airport is one which is built from scratch on a new (undeveloped) site. Therefore, it has no constraints due prior work/existing infrastructure etc.

Green Field = or != Grass Strip?
Sometimes we don't realize the good times when we're in them

Nothing to do with a grass strip, just where it is built. I suppose you could build a small airport with a grass strip on undeveloped land and call it a green field airport but that is not what "green field" airport typically means.

If you build an airport on previously developed land it could be called a brown field airport.

### RE: What Is A Green Field Airport?

Just as an aside, in a similar vein, greenfield is sometimes used to describe new technology projects that aren't constrained by what has come before it, or an operating mode that isn't constrained by compatibility with previous versions ( for example, in order to offer maximum performance, a WiFi network might operate in 802.11n "greenfield" mode where it doesn't attempt to detect or coexist with earlier versions of the network)
