Aircraft Registration Number Vs. Tail/Fleet Number

Wed Jul 25, 2007 4:07 am

Question for all of you knowledgeable A-netters:

Obviously, every airplane out there has its unique registration number. Some operators affix their own numbering system to the aircraft to identify it as well. I've heard it called a fleet #, a ship #, or even a tail number, which is what I call the registration number.

Is there a correct term for the ship number, OR what are other terms is it known by?
