Which Companies Produce Aircraft Tyres?

Wed Oct 17, 2007 8:00 pm

I don't think this has been asked before, so I'm making the question. The only two companies I know who make aircraft tyres (for commercial airliners) are Goodyear and Michelin. Are there other companies who produce aircraft tyres (e.g. Continental (the German tyre manufacturer, not to be confused with CO))?

Our E190's originally came with Dunlop tires. The fleet was converted to Michelin since.

Nokia (yes, the Finnish conglomerate famous for their cell phones) also makes aircraft tires.

I wish I had snapped a picture of the FW-190 with Nokia tires on the main landing gear at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in MMV...  Sad

Also, for GA aircraft, McCreary Tire & Rubber Co. (famous for making reproduction period tires for vintage American cars) also manufacturers tires...

BFGoodrich Aerospace used to manufacture tires as well, however I think after Michelin acquired BF Goodrich, they changed the branding on all of BF Goodrich's aircraft tires to Michelin.

Amazingly, a Google search of "aircraft tires" (or "tyres") yields numerous results.

Interesting. I always thought it was more of a duopoly between Goodyear and Michelin. Thanks so far for the responses.

Dunlop are a fairly large player, their factory is just a few miles from where I live - drive past and you'll often see a multitude of tyres; all shapes and sizes sat out in their yards. The name is synonymous with Birmingham, their former manufacturing location and warehouse, known as "Fort Dunlop" is now being redeveloped by Urban Splash into office space, hotels and apartments - very nice they look too!
