Winds Aloft Around The World

Thu Nov 15, 2007 3:27 pm

Does anyone know where I could find the general trends of winds around the world? Nothing specific to the current weather, but just some rules of thumb. For example, winds for JFK-LHR result in a 6 hour flight, and the other direction is 7+ hours.

Well we all know weather changes all the time, even trends. Basically, the most "general" trend you can define is that just about everything flows from west to east. Here's a site for some anaysises: http://squall.sfsu.edu/crws/jetstream.html

Sorry if it's not really what your looking for.

Awesome! That site is pretty cool! I've never seen a field graph like that before.

I just wonder how that translates into flight times between two points.

And some weather information on:

www.aviationweather.gov

There you can find METARS, high level wind chart etc etc...

Enjoy

Around the world, I couldn't help you, but if you go to aviationweather.gov, you'll get some winds aloft charts, along with other fun stuff.

Here's a good link:
