What Is On The Ceiling Here?

Mon Nov 26, 2007 11:46 pm

I didn't know if this was a General Aviation question, or a Tech-Ops Question, so if the moderators feel that this is a tech question, please move it. Thanks

Now, I was viewing the cabin interior pic of the MESABA AIRLINES CRJ-900ER Next Gen, and Of course, it looks different than the others, but I was wondering what these are on the ceiling? They look like Emergency Lights, but I am not for certain. Can anybody help me out here?

For now I'm guessing they are just regular lights, but someone else can probably confirm or deny this.

The Next Gen CRJs have LED cabin lighting, it looks like a cluster of LEDs, maybe?

Those are for the optional ceiling-mounted rope licorice dispensers, like in the Wayne's World AMC Pacer:

Cabin call lights... it lets the FA know from which group of seats it came from. The old way was to go looking for the call button. This will put them within a few rows.

That seems a little farfetched. Why change the current system when it takes you directly to the row AND cluster of seats that called, instead of having to look within a few rows, and several clusters? I agree, I think it is for rope licorice  Smile

Check this out, I was right after all. (Hurray for me!)

Click on "Enhanced Interior" , then click on the light. It explains it there.

Today I checked on the E190 and they have lights in the overhead that light up when the cabin call light is pressed. In this case it may be 'mood lighting'.. but I'll bet it may be tied into the cabin call lights as well. I have also seen several other aircraft that use a simular system

I prefer chocolate chip, but whatever's in the galley is good for me.
