Fedex Shipment

Tue Dec 11, 2007 2:32 pm

Dear All,

I am a bit suprised to see the following tracking results after I received my parcel at Liverpool from Hong Kong. It says the parcel went to Paris, then Memphis and then finally Stansted. Is that true or is that some errors?

Tracking results as of Dec 11, 2007 8:29 AM CST

Date/Time Location/Activity
Dec 10, 2007 1:01 PM LIVERPOOL GB/Delivered
7:59 AM MANCHESTER GB/On FedEx vehicle for delivery
6:05 AM MANCHESTER GB/At local FedEx facility
Dec 9, 2007 12:58 PM STANSTED GB/In transit
3:57 AM MEMPHIS, TN/Arrived at FedEx location
8:09 AM STANSTED GB/Int'l shipment release
Dec 8, 2007 11:30 PM PARIS FR/In transit
11:11 PM PARIS FR/Departed FedEx location
6:51 PM PARIS FR/Arrived at FedEx location
3:39 PM PARIS FR/In transit
8:21 AM LANTAU ISLAND HK/In transit
Dec 7, 2007 8:14 PM YUEN LONG HK/Left origin

Hope someone can shed some light for me.

Thanks,
William

I wouldn’t doubt it that was the routing, either there could have been a delay because of weather at the intended destination, or a mechanical delay so they put it on another flight just to get it moving, or probably just misrouted it. I have seen some pretty weird routings for both FEDEX and UPS shipments I have received in the past.

With both these package delivery services, the old saying the shortest distance between 2 points is a straight line doesn’t exist, I seen packages routed halfway across the country when the actual shipping distance is only a couple hundred miles.

Was it on time?

It's really hard to say as even as a crewmember I won't say "I have the BIG picture". I doubt it was misrouted though. HKG to CDG I can easily see but why it didn't go CDG-MAN I wouldn't know. There are more flights CDG-STN than CDG-MAN so that might have kept it rolling.

I had a nice layover in MAN a couple of months ago and spent a day or two visiting Liverpool; it was a game day too!

Thats funny, they send the package through the atlantic twice (Paris to Memphis and back to Stansted) then truck up to Manchester.... Funny Funny....

Glad you enjoyed Liverpool - did you manage to see the whole Liverpool, the big digs and the messy city or did you just see the match?

There must be some error(s). This set of times, either using local or zulu time, is impossible. Either it took 4h12m to get from TN to the UK (just under 1000kts) and 4h27m to get from Paris to TN, or it took negative time from TN to the UK.

Unless the shipment can be released without being in country.

I didn't go to the game just saw everyone in red and white, drinking beer!! I did a city look about; starting at Matthew St.

The times don't match the times of the flights I know so I can't say about the coding.

The shipments can be released especially if the papers are filed electronically.
