IS&S Flight Deck Upgrades

Fri Dec 28, 2007 4:01 pm

Out of sheer curiosity, other than ABX Air with their 767-200s, has any other operator retrofitted their 737 classic and/or 757/767 fleet with the large format displays modification by IS&S?

Delta is studying this for their 757/767ER fleet. AA recently selected this modification for their entire 757/767 fleet. For those interested, he's an ABX Air example (modified 767-232 with IS&S upgrade):

We are considering the same for B752SF & B752PCF.Its quite an impressive Stores Inventory reduction,as the number of Instruments eplaced is a lot. However it works well for an Airline with a larger fleet,so thats the obstacle.

Based on the data I've seen, provided the airline invests in the technology, the savings are substantial and the modification pays for itself. I wonder if anyone at FedEx could chime in? Since they will be a 757F operator for many years starting soon surely they could see the benefit from this...

Considering their proposed fleet size.It would workout well for FedEx.

No 737 operators yet. And AA and ABX Air are the only operators that are currently working with IS&S to retrofit their 757/767 fleets, as you said. And FedEx is the cargo operator in the recent 757F/IS&S news.

Kalitta Air were in the process of retrofitting their 747-200 fleet with IS&S displays. That mod only involved the engine instruments, the aircraft already had EFIS.
The glass isn't half empty, or half full, it's twice as big as it needs to be.

My dad was involved with that project. Said he got to play around in the cockpit for a little of one of the aircraft.

Well he's an engineer, so he worked on all the techincal stuff. Schematics, numbers, etc. I guess he had to go visit them and make sure everything worked for the first time, and then go back and make any changes if necessary.

Came across this post, I'm very much interested in hearing if anyone knows if AA or DL has intentions of moving forward with this?
