A320 Engine Options- Does It Effect Pilots?

Sun Mar 23, 2008 2:47 am

Hey Guys:

I know that airlines like US Airways have their A320 series planes with two different engine types, there fore does it require the pilots to take another class to learn the different characteristics of the engines, etc?

AFAIK the pilots have to do differences training so that they know what the numbers mean for the various engines. Operationally, I don't think there's much difference, especially on an aircraft with FADEC and advanced flight control systems like the 32x.

I think the IAE A320s display EPR for the pilots and the CFM A320s display %N1.

Both are correct. The training is a CD and a booklet though.IAE engines are a little bit more powerful and has more effective TR's.CFMs on the other hand starts much more quicker than the IAE.
