Jet Bridge Power - Gate Agents & F/A's?

Fri Apr 25, 2008 4:51 pm

Perhaps somewhat of an odd question, but do most jet bridges/jetways have AC power outlets in the cab area?

If so, do they typically go unused, or what might they be used for?

Thanks!

Hi AOG desk, Buzz here. I've seen a normal "wall outlet" under the controls, use it for running an extension cord for using a carpet shampoo machine, heat gun, and a few other gadgets that can't take the 115v / 400 hz airplane power.

And the custodians of the airport plug in their vacuums there to clean the carpet in the jetway.

g'day

You could also charge your phone while waiting for a flight.

Living in a 240v country, we use the AC outlet in the bridge for the vacuum cleaners on the aircraft. We have tried 115v cleaners that could plug into the aircraft, but in Europe they are difficult to buy and expensive. For turnrounds we use battery driven cleaners, but on nightstops we use 240v cleaners on an extension cord that we plug into the jetty.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that does that!

Cleaners often use it...I've used it to perform borescope inspections.
Work hard fly right..don't understand it

Well at least we can all take comfort in the fact that NW will never retire their DC-9s

I've seen flight attendants doing that before between turns.

Yeah, that too.

Excellent answers all, thank you. I had assumed that it was "normal" 120vac, 60Hz power....and thats been pretty much answered.
