737-800 Landing Speed?

Fri Jun 13, 2008 1:15 am

Hi, everybody. I want to know the average landing speed of a Boeing 737-800 is. I want to know (Oh great, there I go sounding like the evil Russian woman from Indiana Jones 4) this so as to increase the realism on FSX. Usually I land at around 160 kts, but once I touched down at 135. So how does this compare? Thanks for any info.

Both of those speeds would be possible because of the difference in weight when landing.

I'd usually shoot for 140 give or take in flightsim. Again, roughly. If you really want realism in FSX you should get the PMDG 737 series from www.precisionmanuals.com as they are fantastic. They have realistic systems and an FMC to tell you exactly what speed you should be.

At max landing weight (144,000 pounds for our -800s), the flaps 30 (degrees) Vref is 150. We usually add 5 knots to that to produce a "target speed" of 155 knots. So your numbers are pretty accurate. Touchdown will normally occur at a speed less than target.

Check this site out for pdf checklist files of various aircraft. Included is a 737-800 for FSX, which lists the landing speed @ 135 KIAS. Don't know how accurate those numbers are, but they seem pretty close to me...

I would go with the speed that FlyHoss gave as he might be an excellent source as he drives those wonderful craft.

And, from what we in air traffic find on final, the common speed of the 800/900's are very very close to 155 KIAS.

Depends upon the weight and flaps used. 130-150kias is a good range for 30-40 flap landings. Add 10kias for 15 flap landings. That'll get you close.
