Boeing 737-700 Range

Sat Aug 30, 2008 8:25 pm

What is the maximum range on the 737-700? The reason I'm asking is because at this very moment, KLM663 is flying from AMS to IAH. You can see it at http://flightaware.com/live/flight/KLM663. Thanks.

That aircraft isn't a normal 737-700. It is a BBJ with an all business-class interior. The BBJ has a higher MTOW and greater fuel capacity, which make this flight possible. Also, it doesn't in fact belong to KL, but to Privatair.
Exceptions confirm the rule.

Ah that explains it. Thanks for the explanation. I knew Privatair flew BBJs across the ocean it just didn't occur to me that they'd be flying for KLM. Do you know what the actual range is?

Well the range varies a lot. It can go 6,000 miles with extra auxiliary tanks. The 737-700 BBJ has the 800 wing and performance, so that means the plane can fly about 3,000 miles without weight restrictions. In the Privatair configuration, 4,500 miles is fairly reasonable. There are range charts, but they really vary because depending on the payload taken, the range can be drastically different.

The 737-700BBJ was designed to be able to fly JFK-NRT as an extreme range limit.

If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!
