KD Avia 737 Belly Landing

Wed Oct 15, 2008 6:13 pm

I saw the photos yesterday of the 737 which recently made a belly landing with none of the gears down. From the photos it looks like the damage is very very minor.Only the engine cowlings. The engines are not bending upwards either.I have never thaught that it is possible to get so little damage from an event like this.Unless the photos is lying off course. So My question is if the 737 is a specially robust and sturdy construction.Earlier I belived that only McDonnell Douglas planes and some russian types were built like tanks, but I am not so sure anymore.Comments are welcome

A PIA 747-200 made a belly-landing at Islamabad in 1986 when the crew forgot to lower the gear. Damage was relatively minor and the aircraft was repaired and flew for 19 more years.

Interesting pictures.Thanks.
Amazingly not much damage to the aft section. But did the structural inspection reveal any?

Whats this about normal to have one u/s gear not permit the other to extend....never heard that on a B737 ever.

Whats the preliminary report say.
