WhyA340N/G Would Never Make A Good Freighter?

Sat Nov 01, 2008 3:32 am

I reed somewhere that A340 N/G or 500/600, would never make a good freighter. I thought when airlines start retireing them, A340 N/Gs be coverted into cargo jets. Yes there nose gear have to be move to a lower spot so the cabine would level, but I would think it would be worth it seeing the payload these jets could have. So why A340 N/G make bad freigthers?

Google toolbar my friend...

I think that the A340 would be an excellent freighter. The cargo capacity now for the pax model supercedes the 747 (in terms of ULD capacity i don't have the actual W/B numbers) on IB i have loaded 6 pallets in the front and 6 pallets in the aft with 4 baggage containers. That's 12 pallets on a passenger plane. That's almost half of the main deck capacity of a 747. I would assume that the main deck of an A346 freighter would hold at least 20-30 pallets. I'm sure the experts will chime in with range numbers with all that weight.
