B757 With LCD Panels

Sat Jan 10, 2009 5:37 pm

Anyone having data on the number of B757s that have carried out this LCD screen replacing the CRT screens on EICAS/EADI/EHSI/Stby Instruments to date.

At AA we have one 757 that has been converted over to the LCD displays and the associated avionics upgrade. This year the rest of the 757 fleet will be begin conversion.

The HSI, ADI and Standby display are LCD, the EICAS displays remain the same.

Are you sure,as previously the EICAS screens were interchangable with the EHSI.When CRTs were used.If they are not compatiable it would mean increased store inventory.

He's quite sure, like he said we have one airplane soon to be 2 airplanes flying with the LCD's in the area where the EHSI,s and EADI's where, They are keeping the CRT's for the EICAS. Just like ABX did with there airplanes. Besides we have 16 767-200's that may not get upgraded. when all is said and done 124 757's and 58 767-300's well have the MAUI mods' done to them. This is the same mod we are doing in this picture and notice there is CRT's in the EICAS screens area.

Why not replace them with LCDs as well?
I lift things up and put them down.

There really wasn't much of an advantage to do so. This is mainly to do with the EICAS screens not being interchangable with new LCD HSI and ADI.

Interesting.I can only think of size as a reason as an interchangable EHSI with EICAS screen would be too large.
However a smaller LCD for EICAS could cure the problem of Burn in faced by the CRTs on the B757.

That's a preety good reason not to have an LCD EICAS screen. You would have to spend money to develop and produce it and it would not be interchangable with the flight displays.

True, but that's a relatively minor issue.

If you changed the EICAS to take the same LCDs as the EHSI and EADI you would have to relocate the standby engine display, autobrake control, Terrain Override for the EGPWS, the panel light sensors, all which would require a recertifcation of the airplane and retraining of cockpit crews. But as I stated before we have 16 767-200's that may not get upgraded so there still will CRT's in the system for EICAS on the 757/767 fleet.

Any reason why the LCDs used for the EADI & EHSI were of a larger size than the CRTs.

Well if you look at the picture of the ABX a/c in the above thread you can see the EADI or PFD as it is now is a dual display meaning it also has EHSI incorporated into it as well as a seperate nav display or ND which took the place ot the EHSI. FedEx also has this mod in the 757's done by IS&S.

Is Fedex carrying out the upgrade on all their B757 Fleet?
