A380 Belly Doors

Thu Feb 05, 2009 12:29 pm

What might those be for ? maybe 2 ram air turbines ?

Im talking about the bigger ones, simmetric on the external side of the belly,
the ones who looks opening via a inside backward sliding panel.

IIRC the Ram Air Turbine on the 380 is mounted in one of the flap trap fairings (canoes).

Are you talking about the Ram Air Inlet to the AC packs?

I'm curious what all the openings are, from the top of the image down...

1) The large hole slightly left of center.

2) The two openings further aft that open with hinged doors (one right of center, and one left).

3) The small black circular hole at the right of the aircraft.

4) The large embedded doors at the beginning of the wing-body fairing that seem to, as the OP said, open with retracting doors.

5) The triangular openings at the rear of the fairing on either side of center.

Looks like a taxi camera to me

Maybe a cooling overboard or equipment cooling vents (that is my bet). Maybe outflow valves, I do not know the style and where Airbus installs them.

Cooling vent or it looks a lot like what the 777 has for the vacuum waste system. Again do not know Airbus aircraft

Ram air inlet for the packs

NACA inlet. It appears to be about where the A/C bays are.

I think the A380 has its PACK's in the inboard part of the leading edge. The outlets for the PACK's are the sunken rectangular areas (comprised of two squares).

The fixed NACA inlets might be for pack bay ventilation.

That is what I was thinking, I have worked on a plane that had that design on the A/C pack access panel

You are looking at....

4 x Air Generation Unit Ram Air OUTLET doors, motorised, these are the darker rectangular doors on the lower area adjacent to the wing roots, they are actually in pairs.

Then moving forward and inboard you are looking at the AGU Ram air INLET doors again motorised and opened when the packs are switched on.

The larger 2 of the centerline openings are 2 of the 4 Pressurisation outflow valves.

The smallest and nearest opening is the avionics cooling outflow valve.

Hope this helps...

The only "doors" in the belly of the picture of the A380 are the outflow valves. The other "doors" are in the fuselage to wing fairing.
