Audits In Maintenance

Wed Feb 18, 2009 7:11 am

Out here in Maintenance its mandatory to carry out a Internal audit of the Maintenance facilities twice a year not spaced more than six months apart. The Internal audit is conducted by the Quality control department & Flight safety Department.

Apart from these audits there are the unscheduled random audits by Air safety department & Airworthiness department of the Regulatory authority.

How is it in other places?

I'm not in the maintenance group but I am in Engineering and have done a number of our own engineering and flt ops audits. I don't think our internal maint audits are as frequent as yours but I know we have a heck of a control manual to ensure checks, procedures, stds and quality control are maintained.

We also have 3 external auditing groups we need to satisfy (1 group/ yr or more therabouts) and of course SMS. It seems the audits seemm overwhelming when you first go through them, but over the yrs, I guess our processes have developed enough that our pre audit checks have now been reduced to simply ensuring we've captured the regulatory changes since the last audit.

This could come back to bite me in the you know where and I recognize occasional oversights or errors happen from time to time, but the processes do work and the oversights/errors do get caught. I know it's pain in the you know where for the accountant's but policies and procedures cannot be circumvented. There the strength of any airline that the accountants and finance guys, or even the travelling public simply don't recognize well enough.

Thankfully a revert.....was thinking another query post of mine would not have an answer  Smile

On the topic.....True.Aduits do help in doing a job well & eliminating any small errors that exist in the system.

All audits,Internal or external assist it making ones job more perfect by knocking out errors in the system
As for Manuals....apart from the needed Aircraft related ones, there are others like the MOE,Flight safety manual,Human factors manual,Ramp equipment manual, which need to be adheared to my Mx in such audits.

Pretty much the same. A week doesn't go by without someone in for an Audit. We also do our own internal as well..

Is this a scheduled Audit or a spot check, because a Weekly audit seems too frequent.

It all depends on what you are auditing.
Somethings need to be done every week, and other things every month, and so on.

We get spot checks from TC (Transport Canada), as well as scheduled audits (Internal and External)

Every day seems like an audit for something.

Wouldn't that be termed a scheduled inspection rather than an audit,or am I not understanding correctly?
