CFM56 Chevrons?

Sun Feb 22, 2009 8:19 pm

Last week i saw a AF A321 with the CFM56's having a chevroned outlet instead of the standard one, didn't know it was available.

What are the savings and is it possible to have a chevroned and non chevroned engine on the same aircraft?

I think it's more for noise reduction than for any savings (though it might save on the noise bills). I can't see why you couldn't have both type of nacelle on the same plane. The only reason you may want to was if one got damaged, I'd have thought.

There's at least one An-124 (ADB) that has been flying with chevron exhausts on its engines for the past year or two. It also has some sort of new liner on the inside of the exhaust ducts. Both measures were implemented for noise reduction.

Judging by the photos UR-82009 has had them since late 2007
