DL Mechanics Test

Thu Apr 09, 2009 12:21 am

Just wondering if anyone has taken the Mechanics Aptitude test for DL? I'm taking it and was wondering if anyone had anything that could help me. Thanks to everyone in advance.

I took it 12 years ago. I doubt it has changed much. Don't over think it. There is a bunch of basic hydraulic principle and gear ratio stuff. Then there is a fold up the box stuff ( do you understand drawings?). The tuff part for most was the logic diagram test. It wasn't and and Nor gate stuff. It was like the ones on the ASVAB test given by the military. I find it hard to explain. My take is, don't think, just look. The correct line will be obvious. Then there was a small are you a axe murder? section. Back in the late 80's early 90's this was the meat of the quiz. It was like 856 questions of do you want to kill your father?

Which station are you testing for?

I did, in 2001. I failed it. It was a pretty stupid test. I never understood why I had to take the test when I was not licensed at the time....  confused  I was applying for the Technician Helper position.

That was my problem. Ughh!

Never got why they do this. Comes up in every airline test no matter what you are applying for.

DL also does it for Flight Control - why dont they administer an MCAT/LSAT or the GRE, would be just as relevant. Why not ask me to dress in Lederhosen and dance the jig with a cat on my head; while barking like a dog - would be just as relevant.

Hell, for Flight Control, way back they used to have candidates go to a pshrink asking the do u wanna kill your mamma questions - now its just asked 100 different ways on a written (so I am told).

There is the ASVAB style section as well...

I just don't get why DL makes their employees go through these tests regardless of what position one applies for, INCLUDING a janitor position. Again, it is pretty stupid & pointless.

I never had to take any tests with any airline I was hired onto. Thank goodness!

I took it in 2001 as well around July somewhere after I graduated school, it was so easy I failed it but the rumor was that DL knows who to pick before the test, I have many friends that work DL line maint and some of them were dumb as a rock when we were in school. By the way I went to Barnes and Nobles and got an aptitude book test with the folding boxes

Took it today. First is the crazy check test, then its a 3 part test, an applied physics test, folding boxes test, troubleshooting test. Think I did pretty good in the physics and troubleshooting, after a while the folding boxes all start looking alike  confused  Wish I knew about the book on the folding boxes

About several months after taking the test in 2001, I heard the same rumor from somebody who I used to work with at AS, and also from several mechanics at WN after I was hired with them.

Seems like the test is pretty much pointless. If that is the case, then why in the hell did DL fly my to ATL for this and put me in F round trip?! Makes no sense! I felt pretty stupid after hearing all this.

Be glad you're not there anyway. I work with a lot of DL guys here at FDX they quit DL out of frustration and now that NW management will be running things it could only get worse. Be glad you are at WN.

Used to work for UAL? Well NWA and UAL are almost one in the same as far as working conditions and DAL is not any better according to the former and current DAL MX that I know. Sorry to say be prepared for more abuse.

I find that one hard to believe. There would be no point in giving the test. My take is there are a few 'golden questions' buried in that test. So, that might explain the 'I found it easy and failed'. If you answer those few question with what they want, your in. Most that pass the test get hired. I do know of a few that were spun out of the interview phase. One guy had a Foreman go to bat for him, but they still wouldn't hire him.

I took this test in 1991. Judging by what people have said on this thread, the test doesn't seem like it has changed much. I did good on the test. The interview went okay, got a little bit of a strange look when they asked if I thought of sex often..... I told him I was 19 years old what 19 year old did you know that didn't think of it often.

I have heard things are interesting now at Delta now they took over NWA.

Not in 1991 things where different back then. But oh well, I didn't want to work in LA at the time. Even if I did work there for another carrier at a later time.
