Judgemental Oversteering?

Hello Professional pilots,

I after reading a discussion on another topic forum here on A.Net and got to looking at MCO on another site. I saw this:

"..................Group IV and above must perform judgemental oversteering instead of cockpit centerline steering when taxiing"

What does that mean? Using rudder to steer? That's my guess at least.

My guess as to the meaning is that larger aircraft (Group IV and above) need to "widen their turns". If they turn too tightly, the main gear set on the inside of the turn may go off the pavement.

In other words, they cannot just turn following the line painted on the taxiway. They must continue past the line and turn well after the cockpit has passed it.

As for the "judgmental" part, I guess it means that they need to use their judgment while doing this.

Just my guesses.

That's correct but I'm surprised it doesn't refer to specific taxiways since many do have turn fillets. CDG is a good example of some taxiways that do not have fillets and an MD-11 cannot make the turn even with "over center turning".
