What Will Happen When BA's A318 Go For MX?

Sat Nov 14, 2009 2:19 pm

Hello all.

I've done a search and haven't found any similar posts but suggest deletion if so.

I'm curious. With BA only having two A318 aircraft operating the LCY-JFK routing, what will happen when the time comes for one of the birds to go for a C or D check, as they would have to be taken out of service for a period of time.
As this would only leave the one aircraft operational, would BA lease another A318 or would there be ETOPS issues in doing this(presuming the current A318's are ETOPS birds?)

What Privateair did with the BBJ operating for KLM is to have maintenance done over the christmas and NYE period as business travel is low, and the KL663/664 was not operating.
For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and ther

Major inspections are scheduled well in advance so BA can work around this. I suppose the real question is what happens when one of the aircraft has an unscheduled mx issue. JFK may not be so bad as they would just hop on another BA flight, but if it happened at LCY they would have to transfer the passengers/bags to LHR? That would certainly ruin the convenience of using LCY!

If you look at the schedule, you will see that there is only one daily flight in August.
This is when major checks will be done.

The bird-strike on one of the planes the other month could give a good indication.....
