Cost PER Hour To Operate A Rolls-Royce RB211 22C

Wed Dec 02, 2009 9:40 pm

Hello,
Can anyone out there give me a ROW (rough order of magnitude) of the cost per hour to idle a Rolls-Royce RB211 22C (or similar)? I'm looking for a total cost per hour, that would take into account:
Purchase price amortized over the life of the engine
Fuel burn at current prices at idle
Maintenance (including major and minor) over the life of the engine
I realize this is asking a lot, but again, I am only looking for a ballpark number. Can anyone take a stab at this? Any info is appreciated.
Thanks in advance

From the L-1011 T.D.C.S. Note 25. There are no RB-211-22C engines in existence...

Sorry for the error if I picked up a bad number. I am trying to find out this info for a 757 size aircraft engine.
Thanks

I think you might be thinking of the RB211-535 or similar

I dont know those numbers but I would love to know, those are always interesting.

How about a PW2000?

Figure on about 4,000 pounds per hour on the fuel. Average use, not idle. You have to look up the fuel price. I have no idea what it is.
Purchase price would be about 8 million, but, if it came with the airplane, it would be discounted.
Figure on a light overhaul at 1.5 million every 3,000 cycles. Figure on a heavy at 4 million every 6,000 cycles. (you have to decide on your trip length)
Cost to replace the life limited rotating parts every 20,000 cycles is 3 million.

Prices in USD. Do the math, and tell us what it is.

You can probably lease one for about 5,500 per day plus a 1,500 cycle charge. So if you make 4 3 hour trips per day, its going to cost you about 12,000, or about 1,000 per hour plus fuel.

For future reference, you can check the link below to correlate aircraft with engines:

Databases are not 100% complete yet but they're being updated constantly.
