Cessna Citation With Gullwings

Wed Apr 21, 2010 4:06 am

While growing up in Papua New Guinea we had a Cessna Citation fly into Aiyura International airport a few times. I remember it had Gullwings and was modified for dirt runways. I am trying to find out any info on this mod but can't find anything. I do remember that the owner was from Austraila. But don't remeber much else. The time period was around 1989-1990. I was in sixth grade and remember watching it then going and walking around it and talking to the owner. Having grown up around planes from a very very young age, I know it was a Citation just don't know anything else. Until I had my current job I had more time in Cessna 206, 204, and BN islanders. Use to love fly all over Papua Nee Guinea and trying to figure out how the bush pilots could possibly land or take off of some of the jungle runways I flew too. Truely amazing skills those pilots had. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks

I can't imagine anyone going to the expense of changing the wings on a Citation, as a one off.

You may get more information on this pprune thread about PNG pilots and their antics.

Alternatively there's this one, showing an unmodified Citation

Thanks for the info. I received a text from my brother and he was finally able to figure it out. The info he sent me was this: "It was a citation 1with the eagle mod from Sierra industries. They are located in uvalde tx just southwest of San Antonio."

I think the term 'gullwing' is being used to describe SI's Citation winglet mod...

The wing root is thickened up, so the wing kinda looks gullwinged:

BTW: the mod was developed by Astech Engineering. After Astech went bust ownership of the mod went through several hands before it ended up with Sierra Industries.

I think my memory is just off then. Because that's the mod I remember. I just was thinking it was more pronounced. Thanks again everyone!

Hmmm yeah it does, ever so slightly. Interesting mod.
