Competitors Of AmSafe Concerning Safety Belts?

Wed May 19, 2010 3:59 pm

Hi,
I have a question about safety belt manufacturers and developers, are there any real competitors to AmSafe or do they more or less have monopoly? I am mostly thinking about passengers seat belt because you rarely see another type of belt and buckle?

Cheers

Yes. Amsafe are not the only ones.

Yes, there are some other smaller players from doing a simple Google search as FLY2HMO so perfectly demonstrated  , but AmSafe is definitely the major supplier especially to airlines.

All I see is seat belts for GA planes, extension kits, mx providers and custom seat belts for business jets...

They are still competitors nonetheless since aircraft seat belts must be manufactured to TSO C-22g. Its doesn't matter to whom they are marketed (GA, Biz jets, commercial, etc.). What more specifically where you expecting or trying to find?

Companies who focus on airline customers and therefore actually compete with Amsafe, which I take was the question of the thread starter.

Maybe I should have explained why I am asking.... I study industrial design and I am doing a project which aims to investigate how the seat belt buckle could be improved, mostly from a cognitive perspective. According to some information I have come across, some people have troubles using it, especially in stressful situation, for example in case of an evacuation. The answer to the question would help my research.

My question was meant to see if there are any real competitors to AmSafe. I did google it before I posted this, but since I am no expert of the field it is hard to estimate the size and what market share of these companies have comparing to AmSafe. My question would rather be, do AmSafe have any competitors to worry about?

If anyone have other opinions about how to improve the buckle, that would be valuable as well.

Cheers!
