Does A Mixed Narrowbody Fleet Offer Benefits?

I'm wondering if at places like DL, and if UA/CO goes through, whether mixed narrowbody fleets offer as much flexibility as mixed widebody fleets do. For instance, AFAIK having a fleet of A330, 767, and 777 equipment offers DL substantial flexibility and efficiency (right-sizing ability) for their int'l ops. I'm not addressing the issue of commonality -- just the operational side (e.g., the theoretically superior transcon performance of 737NG's vs A320-series).
