Status Of American Airlines' 707 Simulator?

Wed Dec 01, 2010 10:44 pm

Does anyone on the forum know of the status of the Boeing 707 simulator that American Airlines was operating until recently? I understand through a military members only forum that it has been de-commissioned and I am unable to gather further information. Was the equipment sold, broken up or is it stored waiting disposal ? Any information, or a contact at AMR, would be much appreciated.

It was used until the mid 2000s. Gone by 3 or 4 years ago.

PanAm Aviation Academy has a B707 simulator. I wonder if they bought it from AA?

707 sim at Pan Am in Miami, as seen in the YouTube clip below, was built in 1978 by Boeing, last 707 sim built. Delivered to Pan Am training base at Kennedy, moved to Miami late 80s (or even 91 when the airline shut down). Still very busy with crews from various foreign air forces, NATO, MIT, Travolta.

Pan Am's is an original late 60's Level A machine - about as basic as they get. I believe the American unit was a later and a bit more sophisticated model. I would love to know where it is now. Unfortunately, if it went in the mid 2000's, it's probably been scrapped / broken up by now. I would have been willing to pay disposal and transportation costs to assume the unit.

That's interesting. The data I have from global flight's simulator census says it's a LINK SP-1, 2 window display, built in 1968. If that one's gone, and they have the one you describe, that's obviously worth some time.

Perhaps try the training center at American. Some of their sim technicians probably know where it went.

On the same topic, I'd be interested in saving the Delta L1011 sim when the time comes. There are only about 6 qualified L1011 crews left in the US, and they all use the Delta sim. With only a few last frames remaining, I'm sure the sim's career is soon coming to an end as well.
