Do Aircraft Come With A Warranty?

Mon Jan 31, 2011 5:55 pm

When we go into a car show room we want to know that the product comes with a 3,5,10yr warranty on parts & labour, does this apply to Boeing or AirBus?
Do they offer any sort of guarantee with their product once it has been delivered?
Just a thought.

The simple answer is Yes...

Aircraft and their components have warranties usually spelled out in the purchase contracts GTA - General Terms Agreements. Such warranties are complicated enough that most air carriers have departments or groups who monitor the many parts/components covered by the warranties.

I'll stop here if this is a sufficient answer... ok..??

Bombardier corporate jets offer "Smart Parts", a 5 year nose-to-tail warranty, except for engines and APU which is under a pay-as-you-go insurance program.

Nice to know, I guess Qantas has been in touch with the warranty department a few times then,

I may be wrong there, but as far as I understand the pay for use agreement with Rolls Royce should already cover the engine warranty; Beyond that it's either RR or their insurers who'd be liable for the damage the rented engine did to the airframe.

I don't think Qantas would actually need to deal with their own warranty providers on this.

Suggest reading the following for more information on warranties:

474218: That's some good info. there. I know that when we replace non-tracked parts if we suspect the aircraft is still under warranty we return these parts tagged for warranty, these are parts we trash otherwise.

Some light corporate jets and a majority of new GA piston planes come with warranty programs very similar to those found in cars. Some have offered free maintenance for 2 years or 250hrs. Mooney does a "spinner to tail warranty" and a longer "structural warranty".

Our new 737-700's and -800's all have big red "AIRCRAFT UNDER WARRANTY" stickers on their mx logbooks.

Yep. bleep bloop bleep.
