why Airbus change the nose gear design to an twin wheel design instead of staying with the quad nose gear design?
Part of what happened in those years was much better tire design. So they could run larger and wider tires than before. This reduces the ground pressure for a given wieght, which in turn can prevent needing more wheels to meet airport compatablity. The primary restriction on wieght per wheel is runway damage, not tire or wheel strength.
