A380 - Actual Wake Vortex Problems?

Hi all,

with up to about 40 A380 flying now, how has the wake vortex issue been doing lately?
Are A380's really blocking somehow to much airspace when they approach the different airports in the world?

Are the ATC guys and airport managers happy with the approach and departure handling / performance of the type?
Does the A380 really create to big steps in the approach sequences?

I posted the same question a few weeks ago and go zero responses so will watch this thread as I am really interested to know the answer myself...

As far as I know the ATC seperation standards behind an arriving A-380 are now the same as a B-747, about 5 miles. For departure, taking off behind an A-380 requires a 2 minute wait, again just like the B-747.

I expect the seperations standards for a B-747-8F/I to be the same, by the time they enter service.

I believe they are doing seperation trials on the 748 as we speak.Airbus also conducted some recently for the CAA but have no clue as to what results/answers there are. I think seperation values for 380's are at present higher than 747's as I recall.

Maybe there some ATC guys or even A380 pilots which could help to shed light into this....???

All I know when the A380 came to MCO, we used 10 miles separation and 5 minutes on departure. Again, at that time it was still a test flight and you know, better safe than sorry.

It visited MCO for gate fitting.

I don't think A380 separations are quite as low as the existing 747's yet. Heading that way, but not yet

I think it would be more likely to follow the A380's experience, and start with a more conservative separation, which progressively becomes reduced to a "normal" one with operational experience.

There was an ex-KAL cargo 747F at BFI for a while that was flying formation with a 747-8F. This was widely assumed to be for wake vortex testing. I haven't seen that ex-KAL plane for a while, which makes me suspect they've finished the vortex testing, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

I don't believe there have been any reductions in approach separation distances from the ICAO levels published in Aug 2008

A380 4nm
Heavy 6nm
Med/Small 7nm
