Fuel Consumption 737-800-v. 700

Wed Mar 09, 2011 5:36 pm

Couldn't find the answer elsewhere and would appreciate the answer or someoen showing me how I should have looked for it.

SWA ordered some 800's assuming a full passenger load and cargo-how much more fuel does an800 consume than a 700 on a 2 hour flight for example? Othere than Fuel, the extra capital cost of of a larger airplane, higher landing fees and the cost of one extra FA are there any additinal costs of flyign the larger bird?

From 737 FCOM

assuming same seat ratio between generic 1 class 700 and SWA 700, the 800 for SWA would be around 175 seat

for 2200 NM trip

737-700, 137 seats, fuel burn = 24750 lbs
737-800, 175 seats, fuel burn = 28160 lbs

13.8% increase in fuel burn vs. 27.7% increase in seat

Landing at MLW ( full payload @ 2200 NM)

737-700 fuel burn = 27130 lbs
737-800 fuel burn = 30734 lbs

If you want more numbers, search for 737 FCOM.
One day there will be 100% polymer plane
