Unknown Item In Cockpit Of 737 NG

Fri May 06, 2011 1:10 pm

The other day got asked by a captain about what this is for as it does not seem to be in any of the other 737 NGs that we operate, I said that it looked like a holder from a HF mic, but he didn't know either, any ideas?

Agree, nice to see slamclick back.

Anyhow, Reno MD-90 captain (as I recall) is correct- you slide the window shades out of their rolled up position, and the thing hooks into this hook you've pointed out. I use it all the time, and I'm just a mechanic!

Incidentally, if a captain asked ME what it was for, I'd probably turn around and disembark from that particular flight; no telling what else he isn't familiar with. Power levers? Where? Fire handles? Never noticed those down there before!

This is one on a 737NG and we dont have sliding shades just the clip on green coloured things off the bar at the top of the window, the reason he asked is that off the 200 odd 737s in the fleet this one was the only one both himself and I had come across. I know the pic is on rotated wrong but it is on the the FO side lookign out to the right

I believe he shows up about once a year, makes a smart*ss comment in a random thread, then goes back into hibernation until the next spring.

Yup, that has been his modus vivendi lately sadly.

Reports of my aliveness cannot be positively confirmed.

Anyone know the SPF value of the Jeppesen enroute charts that the rest of us used?

Well, YOUR NG's might not have them, but MINE certainly do. So I suspect the clip is standard equipment for the window frame trim, whether your aircraft end up built with or without shades.

Are you SURE they're not hiding back in the frame of #2?
We've got the clip-on ones as well, but they're in addition to the roll shades....

MINE don't have the clips either. Maybe its an option and not standard equipment as you believe.

So you're saying that yours have NEITHER the clip NOR the shade?

While mine have BOTH the clip AND the shade?

Yet this guys have ONLY the clip but NOT the shade?

Come on, Boeing, get it together!!!

All NG's have shades that are clamped to the horizontal bars. On my airlines fleet we do not have the roller shade or the clip to attach a roller shade in its extended position, which is why I believe it is a option.

Nice.

I've got 15000 hrs in 737's and until reading this thread, never knew window shades were even an option.

Option. As in, not all airlines (probably most) don't get them.
