BA Baggage Delays

Wed Jul 20, 2011 5:41 am

OK folks, so it's now over three years since LHR opened the new Terminal 5, followed almost immediately by the widely reported baggage fiasco where 000's of bags were lost, delayed, stockpiled etc.

Whilst the baggage problems of T5 are no longer reported in the press, it is my suspicion that they do still exist to some degree?

I have flown domestically into T5 three times this year. Each time, we've arrived at the North side gates adjacent to the domestic baggage reclaim (gates A1, A2 ... ) and from deplaning to receipt of my bags has taken 45 minutes, 40 minutes, and, most recently this weekend 90 minutes! Last month flying into T1 from ATH, my bags arrived in 15 minutes, much more like it!

So, a 350 mile flight takes me 1 hour, yet the 100m from the plane to the baggage hall takes my bag a further 90 minutes? The latest delay was blamed on technical difficulties where the previous two were described by the desk in the domestic reclaim as 'normal' - 40 minutes for bags 'normal'?

Can any of you well informed folk throw any light on this before I waste time writing to the airline to voice my dissatisfaction please? Thank you in advance ....

All I will say is that I also have found the domestic bag reclaim to be an absolute painful joke - I can see 40 minutes being normal - but the international one in T5 is NORMALLY much speedier; several times I have been first off a long haul and through security in 10 minutes to find my bag already out....
