Mould Inside The Window

Tue Nov 15, 2011 1:18 am

On my recent flight on the Embraer 195 I have notized there was quite abit of mould inside the window,is that normal?I have never seen that before on any other jets.It would be a difficult job to get rid of it as it is sealed inside the window.

If you mean the mold was between the inner and outer panes, the only way to remove the mold is to remove the window assembly remove the panes from the seal and clean the mold.

As for how the mold got there I would guess the vent hole in the inner pane is plugged.

What a mold.....

It's a fungus that tends to grow in moist areas:

I would tend to think that dry, thin air and high ultraviolet light exposure would make for a most hostile environment for mold...

It may not have been mold. On my airlines E190s, the side of the window shade that faces the window has a fuzzy fabric on it, which leads to more fuzz/dirt between the panes at least based on my observations.
