Qantas & Qantaslink Operating Costs?

Sun Nov 27, 2011 10:08 am

In short, how do Qantas costs (staff etc) compare to those of Qantaslink?

In short, Qantas staff are paid more.

Qantas & Qantaslink Operating Costs?

QantasLink cost base probably varies between the different various airlines that QF has contracts with. ClassicLover is right though -- as with virtually every other regional subsidiary in the world, QantasLink has much lower costs that mainline.

If qantas link costs are lower, why not try to have more flights operated by them?

QantasLink is NOT an airline, it has no AOC. It's a brand name. It's services are operated by various airlines (AOC Holders) under contract to Qantas. Airlines include Eastern Australian, Sunstate & NJS (Cobbans), there may be others. So the question of who has the lower operating cost is pretty moot. Obviously it is cheaper to use the contractors than to do it themselves, otherwise why bother?

It depends on how the data is normalised, I would have thought that QF mainline pilots would be cheaper on a RPK basis as they fly higher capacity aircraft on longer sectors. For every RPK flown by Qantas link, Qantas mainline flies 20-25 times more, the salaries in QF are not 20-25 times higher.
