Slide/rafts On 737 MAX?

Thu Jan 05, 2012 7:16 pm

Currently, the 737NG is the only Boeing or Airbus aircraft that does not offer slide/rafts as an option. However, with many carriers now flying 737s overwater, I was wondering, could Boeing offer them on the 737 MAX?

I think the door would need to be re-designed to handle the larger slide/raft pack, but my understanding is that the door design will remain the same. But ultimately air carriers would probably just do what they do with current 737s...stick a separate raft in the overhead ceiling.

I agree. Also because they can only be put on the aircraft when required, and not on every single flight, which would mean increased fuel burn.
