Mixed-mode At LHR

Tue Mar 27, 2012 5:47 am

Last year the UK government approved trials of mixed-mode operations at Heathrow during times of delay, in order to prevent further delays.

http://www.flightglobal.com/news/art...ow-starts-mixed-mode-trial-364113/

according to these sources, the trial was to to last 4 months from the start of November, therefore ending at the end of February. However, a glance at FlightRadar24.com shows that this morning (March 27th) dual runway landings are apparently in operation.

I know FlightRadar24 is wholly accurate but this definitely seems quite clear.

Anyone know if the trial's been extended?

Early mornings they do a mini mixed mode with some airlines requesting 27L instead of right or 9R instead of left. Mainly it's T4 airlines or the T3 380s that want to say THAT side of the airport
(The views on this site are my own and no one elses)

Mixed mode is operable until 7.00 however you will note that its still NOT parallel landing as aircraft remain well spaced .
Between 12.30 and 3 PM a small number of landings can also request the departure runway subject to traffic.
(More common on the 09s through0

That was mentioned in the article as well but indicated it was also part of the trial.

Heathrow has landed on both runways before 7am for years. It's nothing new and nothing to do with the trial.

I do remember that there was going to be a second trial period. It was announced and the usual noise protesters started again. I would rather they have a test, but not announce it to see just how many noise complaints actually happen. Sadly, that won't happen.
Me: (Lining up on final) I shall now select an aiming point. || Instructor: Well, I hope it's the runway...
