Identify This! Airports Of The World.

Thu Jun 14, 2012 6:41 pm

I hope I don't have any copyright infringement issues by using the title of the legendary "Identify this" series   , but I thought/hoped I'd begin a new generation of Identify This threads, showing aerial views of airports of the world.

Of all the amazingly knowledgeable people on these forums, I hope we can get the ball rolling with this...

Any ideas?

I was going to post that one before I chose SJC. It's Qamdo Bamda Airport (BPX). Currently the world's highest airport as well as the longest public runway.

One of my favorite FlightSim stops in a DC-7, but I've been there in real life - in an EC-121N - 1973, my cousin flew there in a USMC F-4 Phanton as his squadron ferried from El Toro to Chu Lai in late 1967.

The layout looks like Eduardo Gomes in Manaus Brazil (SBEG / MAO) but I'm not sure due to the limited vegetation.

This is from my phone at work, no access to GE. If I'm right, someone else post a new airport.

Wow, that's amazing, at 5,500 metres in length (!!) it brings a whole new dimension to jokes about relying on the curvature of the earth to become airborne. Thanks for posting

The basic layout and design are very similar to the New Doha Intl Airport - but the runways are too short, and we would see the gulf in the photo if that was it. Also the runways are too short for NDIA - which will have 17,700 and 16,100 ft long runways.

My best guess is the New Islamabad International Airport under construction in Pakistan.

Changi does have two 13 k runways but they are staggered, not fully parallel as in the photo above.

So it is scheduled to open in about 2 weeks (June 28)

I assume Wujiaba will be shut down. It would be a shame to see one of the oldest airports in China, a key Flying Tiger base, an essential part of the 'Over the Hump' logistics train and all the other history go away. I hope they are planning appropriate memorial locations.
