Airbus To Offer EFB Performance Apps For IPad

Tue Jul 10, 2012 12:06 pm

Airbus to offer pilot Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) performance apps on iPad. Will be available on App Store. http://ow.ly/i/L3Zw

Sounds cool - I can imagine that all us avgeeks can have hours of fun with this when it comes out, discussing whether any particular model can make a destination with a certain payload and under certain conditions!

Do we know it actually does range/fuel burn calculations? All the EFB apps I've seen before (even on the Class III's) just do takeoff/landing performance, not en route. They seem to leave that to the FMC.

After re-reading my post, I could have worded it better   I actually meant in reference to lifting a payload from limiting runways etc - I didn't mean the range/fuel burn calcs.

I wouldn't get your hopes up for this one: it's likely going to come with a pricey subscription for the data. That stuff isn't cheap to develop.

The Airbus press release:

Airbus offers iPad Electronic Flight Bag solution

This one is already online in the App Store:

Airbus Perfo

The disclaimer:

Quoting Airbus:
“Data enclosed herein are provided for demonstration purpose only. They must not be used for operational purpose and Airbus disclaims any liability regarding the use of these applications. These applications can only be used for operational purpose with real data by airlines qualified pilots after such airline has entered into a specific agreement with Airbus SAS.”

The app itself (with some rudimentary demo data only) is free; The "specific agreements" most likely won't be.
