Business Class Seat

Fri Jul 13, 2012 2:31 pm

Qatar recently unveiled its Boeing 787 at Farnborough. One of the articles regarding the business class seat said that it is "revolutionary and proprietary" to Qatar Airways. It seems that B/E Aerospace made the Business Class seats while Recaro made the economy class seats.

So, what makes a seat proprietary? I'm not so sure what makes this seat drastically different from EK, SQ or one of the other premier airlines.

While the seat does look appealing, I personally don't like it since you can't look out the window.

Thanks,

The Qatar seat faces the window. You are a bit far away from it, but you certainly can see out.

Qatar likely paid to customize the seat, which makes it proprietary. While many business class seats are very similar, some offer unique features. Qatar likely paid for customization so no one else can use the seat with their exact same specifications. There are many airlines that do use the same seat. AA is going to use the exact model of SICMA seat as CX.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!
