How Many FA's On Each UA Aircraft?

Mon Aug 13, 2012 10:10 pm

For example, I am aware that UA's 752's are usually served by 4 FA's. Just out of curiosity, does anyone happen to know the number of FA's each UA aircraft usually carries? Do FA's tend to favor a certain aircraft due to more reasonable crew:passenger ratios, or the other way around? Couldn't find anything on the search engine. Thanks!!

The amount of FAs depends on the number of seats. One FA for every 50 seats (not actual passengers aboard). Doesn't matter if it's UA, DL, AA, AS, whatever.

As a former Continental flight attendant, I can tell you that the number of FA's ranges widely. Yes, there is the minimum crew required, and many times domestically on a 737 or 757, minimum crew is what you would have. There are exceptions, for example minimim crew on a 757-200 is 4, and almost all flights to Florida on the 757 were only staffed with 4 f/a's, however transcons were usually staffed with 5 to do the different service. International flights on the 757 were usually staffed with 6, however if the load was light it would only be staffed with 5. When I was a f/a most flight attendants loved the 767-200, you would have 7 f/as domestically usually, and 8 internationally, where again minimum crew is only 4 on that plane, but to only have 4 f/a's on a 767-200 is ludicrous! The service would be done so quick having so many flight attendants, and you would have more down time which most f/a's love! Almost everyone hated the 757-300 because there would usually only be 5 f/a's and with a full flight, that plane was referred to as a slave ship.

I'm aware of the FAA minimums; I was asking how many FA's United usually staffs their aircraft with. As Fly764 mentioned, the 50 seat-per-FA minimum is occasionally exceeded, especially on widebodies.

Thanks a ton! What about the 777's?

There used to be 13 FAs on an international 777 trip, but now I believe there are 11.

This is s-UA only. I don't have the staffing guidelines for s-CO
North America flying includes Canada. Intl flying includes Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Central America and Carribean.
A319/320 3 F/A's North America and International
747-400 11 N.A. 15 Intl
757 (2 class) 4 N.A. and Intl
757 (3 class) 5 N.A. (used for PS flights only)
767 (2 class) 7 N.A. 9 Intl
767 (3 class) 6 N.A. 8 Intl
777 (2 class) 8 N.A. 11 Intl
777 (3 class) 8 N.A. 11 Intl

Hope this helps!

Thanks that helps a lot! Sorry to be a pain, but do you happen to know how the FA's are distributed between classes on the widebodies?

Here you go...this is the sCO side of UA

the following are for international flights only (UBF is United BusinessFirst)

757 - staffed to 6, 2 in UBF and 4 in Y/C
767-200 - staffed to 8, 3 in UBF and 5 in Y/C
767-400 - staffed to 10, 5 in UBF and 5 in Y/C
777 - staffed to 12, 7 in UBF and 5 in Y/C

with those numbers said...that does not take into consideration flights that are variable staffed (due to passenger loads) and the fact that we all help each other out to ensure the service in completed in all cabins.

Hope this helps

757 (3 class) 5 N.A. (used for PS flights only)

Also worth to note it used to be staffed with 6, 2 in each class, when the service first started.
