Southwest Acars Frequencies

Wed Sep 19, 2012 8:34 pm

Does anyone know what ACARS frequencies Southwest may be using in the Greater Washington/Baltimore area? I monitor 130.025 and 131.550 but I rarely pick up any WN aircraft - or at least I can't see aircraft in the logs that I know went right over my house.

Thanks in advance

Try any of the US frequencies listed here:
http://www.acarsd.org/ACARS_frequencies.html

I don't think SWA has their own frequency but they should be on one of the US common frequencies (there are more than two).

These guys also have the HF ACARS list, but SWA shouldn't be using that:

Thanks Tom,
I have tried the various freqs but it seems that WM is sporadic at best. Other airlines like UA and DL show up like clockwork on the same freqs on the same flights.

I have read that certain airlines are put on certain freqs by default (by ARINC I suppose). I also once read that WN was holding out for digital ACARS (forgot the proper name) but gave in due to delays and "turned on" the ACARS system on their fleet. I would have expected that we would start seeing them show up much more often.

WN aircraft pop up very infrequently on the two freqs I monitor. For example, I know Colorado One was in at BWI in the past weeks, but no trace of it anywhere on my ACARS logs, my SBS box or any other data source that I'm aware of.... quite strange!

VDL Mode 2?
B-52s don't take off. They scare the ground away.

Part of Next Gen is going to be that at the Center level...the need for radio calls is going to be greatly reduced as most of the contolling in the enroute enviornment is going to be over ACARS....much like you see on the North Atlantic these days. Southwest probably wanted to wait for this to come online so they wouldn't have to double invest, but gave in.
