TK Fleet DOW For Each Aircraft

Sat Jan 12, 2013 1:09 pm

Using data on TK's THY AHM560 website I have calculated the DOW for each aircraft type. I have established the mean with the max and min value for each fleet . This information is probably very close to the DOW values for other operators of the same type.
This is in an Excel spreadsheet and I would be happy to share it if you contact me with your email address.

Just out of curiosity, why have you done this?

The DOW ( dry operating weight) which is the weight before the passengers and cargo are loaded and the fuel is pumped aboard. This value for an aircraft allows for a pretty accurate calculation of payload when the fuel load and takeoff weight are known. It greatly assists in using the payload/ range charts that the manufacturers provide.

Nice job
It's very interesting to see how dow moves with different interior for the same aircraft !
And to spot the difference between 737-8 and A320 or A330-200 / -300 and A340-300

What we use as empty weight in our discussions and the OEMs range examples is a idealistic empty weight. Formally things like water for the galleys and toilets are missing but on almost every practical airliner interior options, IFE etc will increase the empty weight. The open TK listing gives good values for how big the difference is in real life, for a 737 and 320 it is normally an additional 1.5t for a cabin whith standard seating.

Any special arrangements for the seating and the difference increases, the 332 had an official OEW of 116.8t and the TK typical DOW is 124.8t for a 250 seater. Now those 8 tons are often forgotten when we talk about possible destinations for a 332   , god to be able to check what a real ship looks like.

Nice job by Sunrisevalley, I use it all the time.

Sunrisevalley,

Thks for the mail

How do you chose from crew number and pantry type for each plane ?

Ferpe,
Airbus "new 2 class" seat count is closer to reality
I don't know how far from reality is Boeing "typical 3 clas config". It's time to dig

Have a good day

There is a crew weight table at the bottom that will allow for adjusting total crew weight.Catering is somewhat arbitrary . I believe I used the value for "Domestic flights return pantry " on all narrow body flights.

Ok. I know what the different weights are, I work with them on a daily basis, just wondered what use they'd be on here...

You are in an almost unique situation so far as A.netters are concerned. It seems to me most airlines treat their fleet DOW information as if it is a national secret. Are you free to share any of your companies DOW information on a limited basis? If you are and you operate 77E's what value do you use for a 272-seat version?
Ferpe did a good job of explaining why there are some A.netters such as myself who are looking for the most accurate information that there is.
