United Express In GRB

Sat Jan 26, 2013 2:41 am

I've heard through the grapevine that the results of United's RFP for ground handling at GRB will be released on February 14. This station is handled by Air Wisconsin, and apart from American Eagle handling the legacy CO flights for a short time, it always has been. Since United dropped American Eagle last November, I find it unlikely that they will win the contract, but at the same time, I'm wondering if ZW can hang on after they lost the contract at their home base, ATW, to Regional Elite (now DGS).

Who are some of the other operators United might choose if they don't go with ZW? SkyWest? DGS? Some company we've never heard of? If anyone is in the know, I'd like to hear your insight.

Here is one problem ZW is going to have with retaining this station. After ATW closed, a lot of the ATW agents transferred up to GRB. ATW was a very senior station and though GRB was not as senior, there are still some senior people up there, which will make it difficult for them to put in a competitive bid on the ground handling. I would put money on DGS winning the contract, since it will be cheap for them to set up already being established in GRB, plus they can hire off the street and the labor is much cheaper. Very sad reality that we have to even talk about this, as it seems like cost is the only thing that matters anymore, quality be damned.

Worldwide flight services is a possibility, they picked up some former OO contracts when UA dumped them..... This will be a long shot but maybe even DL (there is DL mainline employees in GRB)

Well, the decision was supposed to be announced yesterday. Has anybody heard anything?
