about two years ago I made the trip SCL-IPC-SCL and yesterday my boss flew LIM-IPC. I know there are certain specific operational rules for these flights (they have been pointed out in this forum before), as the flights inbound to IPC have no alternate airport.
But I couldn't find anything about fuel planning for these flights. Is there a possibility to refuel the aircrafts for the return leg? I know there is a fuel/gas storage just SE of the airport, but with 9(?) weekly flights outbound from IPC and approx. 30 tons of trip fuel alone (B767 - 5hrs. flight time), I think this will exceed any storage capability on the island.
So I have to assume every aircraft is loaded with the required fuel for both legs. But how is the required fuel calculated?
Because there is no alternate for the inbound trip to IPC after the "barrier" (at about half of the trip time) I guess fuel for this leg is just trip fuel + holding + contingency(?), as there will always be enough fuel to return to SCL/LIM.
But if an aircraft on the outbound leg has to return to IPC (for example just short of the "barrier"), would fuel calculations also include this scenario and trip fuel for the second leg is 1,5x trip fuel for one leg (+ fuel for the alternate + holding + whatever), so there will be always enough fuel for the aircraft to return to SCL/LIM even in the event it has to return to IPC and then again to SCL/LIM without the aircraft being "stranded" at the Isla de Pascua?
