SDU 02R Approach

I was recently on a GOL flight from BSB to SDU, and I thoroughly enjoyed the approach to SDU's 02R. We arrived from the north, passed east of Corcovado, turned base just north of Pao de Acucar, and received an amazing aerial tour in the process. Can anyone please provide details regarding this approach? Is it a visual approach? RNAV approach? What are the minimums? Any details are appreciated.

I consider Rio to be one of the most beautiful cities, and this approach truly highlighted the city's natural wonders. Cheers to the Brazilians for hosting my great vacation!

Hi Modesto...

There a couple of approaches to SDU 02R, but only one is a pure RNAV approach and with RNP 0.10 accuracy (RNAV/RNP Z RWY 02R). This is a special use approach and for the time being, and IIRC, only KK and G3 are certified to do it. That particular approach has the following minima: 300ft ceiling and 1600m visibility. DA is 305ft

Then you have the RNAV/GNSS E RWY 02 or the "D" variant, the latter has a visual prescribed track published as well. Both have minima: 1100ft ceiling and 4000m visibility.

Lastly, you have also two other approaches with higher minima (1500ft and 4800m), the RNAV/GNSS RWY 02/20 or the more mundane NDB B RWY 20/02, they do not have prescribed visual tracks. Most of the time, though, with good weather, they are the favored choice. During my time operating in/out from SDU, with nice weather we normally made one of these, and upon reaching visual contact with the field it was a pure visual approach. Very nice and fun to do.

Pretty sporty with that RNP .1, what type a/c are certified to RNP .1 approach minimums that KK and G3 are flying into SDU?
